Jamie phoned to say that the doctors are going to give Denisse another CT scan tomorrow. The swelling had not reduced today but we will see what tomorrow holds.

Jamie phoned to say that the swelling in the brain has returned to where it was a couple of weeks ago. She has been returned to a deep coma. Obviously, with the progress made yesterday, this is a huge setback. There will be another scan tomorrow and we will update this when we have further news.

26th March 2005 Midday.

Just had contact from Janice that the swelling to the brain has returned so the hospital has re-sedated Denisse and have put her back into a coma. We do not know when they will start the process again to reduce the drugs. Obviously, Jamie has had a setback on this and he is now feeling down. We will find out further information tonight when I will re-update this page.

We know that this was a possibility as Jamie had been told that it could take a minimum of 4-5 days up to a few months before Denisse comes out of the coma.

25th March 2005 (Jamie’s Birthday)

Denisse has half opened her eyes today. Jamie is over the moon. Progress looks good.

24th March 2005

I know that I speak to some of you regularly - my heartfelt apologies to those I haven't gotten round to yet but also thought it would be good to do a regular distribution update as and when there is news on Denissita.

Today is Jamie's birthday and I'm pretty certain he wouldn't have thought that he'd be spending the day in Vienna waiting for that magical moment of 15:00 when he's allowed to visit his wife for 2 hours. That hasn't changed and while she's in intensive care, is unlikely to. The good news on that front is that they are very strict with her care and tend to work on her round the clock.

It's been 12 days since the accident and those first few were fraught with anxiety. I'm not going to sugar-coat this as we don't really know what we are dealing with yet from both a physical and mental perspective but what we do know is:

  • They detected brain waves
  • She is controlling the respirator and not the other way around in terms of breathing - so not quite breathing on her own but damn close
  • They are slowly reducing/altering her drugs to try to bring her out of the trauma-usual drug induced coma - the original prognosis was that this could take anything from a min of 3 days to months. Her progress is currently about average and we hope that within the next few days, she may be able to wake unless she is in her own coma but this is looking less likely as the days go by, thank God
  • She has been able to move ALL of her limbs through the agitated state of being detoxed
  • They will have to focus on the fractures once she is more mobile - but these are not life threatening  but we don't know the extent of the impact on mobility assuming that she does wake up
  • Her mental prognosis will not be known until she wakes. Unfortunately, she impacted her frontal lobes in the accident which controls, sight, emotions and personality. This is a worry.....
  • HOWEVER, she is a fighter with a strong will and an uncompromising faith which has to put her in a strong position

Some logistical/tracking info:

  • Ingrid, Denisse's lovely sister, will be in Vienna from Saturday coming in from the US
  • Mum and the boys have left Essex and are with Ala & Jean in Scotland
  • Tim & Nicole are due to go on a much needed holiday on the 3rd so it makes sense for Mum and the boys to stay with Ala & Jean - all returning on the 14th or thereabouts. By that time we should know more on Denissita's progress but we are all on stand-by in case she's in a position to see the boys sooner rather than later
  • Poppy is on stand by to either go to Stirling to be with the family sooner rather than later or to come down with Mum who will by all kiddied out by then no doubt although her adrenaline is certainly keeping her going and she has been a rock for Felipe
  • I am trying to get to Scotland and/or Vienna over the next 2 weekends - basically where I'm needed most
  • Darling Christine is getting married in Barbados and we are planning to leave for a 2 week vacation on the 15th. We should know more on Denisse by the time that I have to make the penultimate decision on whether or not I should go, go for a shorter period or cancel - all up in the air just now and it just goes to show how so many people's lives get affected.

Sebastian is doing so much better. Nicole had arranged for the school counsellor to see him yesterday and although there are issues, he seems happier in himself - although in denial to a degree, as anyone would expect. For those of you who don't know, he was on the kiddies sled with Denisse at the time. Thank God he's physically well although he had a nasty virus, but we now have to look to his mental health. This morning he had a huge cooked breakfast and was running around with his cousin, so things can't all be bad.

Well, darlings this is the first of what a hope will be a fair few messages as we are all convinced that Denissita will continue to make strong progress and I will want to ensure you are all aware. I know Tim is considering setting up a website but with all the pressure, we may end up just doing regular e-mails.

You can also send any e-mails to Jamie for them both on: jamie.anderson@diageo.com. Don't be worried if you don't hear back but he will ensure Denisse gets the message read to her.

I will try to get calls through as and when but please forgive me if these are infrequent or there are delays. All just living from day to day just now but at least we know you are all thinking of us and we are sooooo grateful, words can't express this.

Our love to you all.
